「環境は育てるもの」
—対話を軸とする社会プロセスとしての建築・都市デザイン
OTA LAB は、対話を軸とする社会プロセスとしての建築・都市デザインを探究する研究室です。 建築や都市を完成した「もの」としてではなく、人々の関係や活動のなかで生成され続けるプロセスとして捉え、環境と社会の新しい関係性を考えています。 対話を通して人々の経験や価値観を引き出し、それらが空間として形になるプロセスを研究するとともに、実際の地域や社会の現場で設計・制作・ワークショップなどの実践活動を行っています。
研究テーマは、以下の3つの軸で構成されています。

Research Themes
1）自己組織性を育む環境デザインの理論と実践
Environmental Design for Self-Organization: Theory and Practice
KW：自己組織化、コモンズ、協働デザイン、対話
人々の関係性や日常的な行為から、環境の秩序が内発的に立ち上がるプロセスに着目し、部分的な行為や関係が相互に作用しながら、全体の秩序が徐々に形成される「自己組織性」から環境形成のメカニズムを明らかにします。複数のフィールドワークや実践プロジェクトを通じて、こうしたプロセスを支える計画・デザイン方法の構築を目指しています。
This research focuses on processes through which the order of environments emerges internally from people’s relationships and everyday actions. By examining how partial actions and relationships interact with one another and gradually generate an overall order, the study seeks to clarify the mechanisms of environmental formation from the perspective of self-organization. Through multiple fieldwork studies and practical projects, the research aims to develop planning and design methodologies that support and cultivate such processes.

2）デザインプロセスの可視化・共有化に関する研究
Research on the Visualization and Sharing of Design Processes
KW：可視化、デザインプロセス、創造性、ケア、実装認識
建築設計を、思考・対話・意思決定が交差するプロセスとして捉え、その流れを記録・分析・可視化する方法を研究します。設計プロセスの共有を通じて、創造的な思考や協働のあり方を支援するデザインコミュニケーションの手法を探究しています。デザイン評価の可視化手法、設計教育の伴走型指導ツール、デザインワークショップ参加者の実装認識評価、などに取り組んでいます。
This research approaches architectural design as a process in which thinking, dialogue, and decision-making intersect. It investigates methods for documenting, analyzing, and visualizing the flow of design processes. By sharing these processes, the study explores design communication methods that support creative thinking and collaborative practices. Current work includes the visualization of design evaluation methods, the development of mentoring tools for architectural design education, and the assessment of participants’ perceptions of implementation in design workshops.

3）ナラティブによる動的な地域記憶のアーカイブ
Archiving Dynamic Local Memories through Narrative
地域に蓄積された生活の記憶や経験、場所の価値を生活者の「ナラティブ（語り）」を通して捉え直し、実空間と結びついた形で記録・可視化する方法を研究します。コミュニティと共に、地域の歴史や価値を未来へ継承するための新しいアーカイブのあり方を探究しています。
This research reinterprets accumulated memories of everyday life, experiences, and the values of place through residents’ narratives. It explores methods for recording and visualizing these narratives in connection with physical spaces. Working together with local communities, the study seeks new forms of archiving that can preserve and transmit regional histories and values to future generations.

その他）手による参加のエコロジー・デザインビルド実践
Ecologies of Hands-on Participation and Archiving Commons-Based Design
学生や市民との協働によって小さな建築や都市装置を自らつくる実践を行い、 参加と共創に支えられた空間秩序の生成プロセスを検証します。 空き家の活用、小規模な建築介入、仮設的インフラの設計制作など、 地域スケールでの建築的実践を通じて、社会に根ざした建築の持続性を探求しています。 さらに、これらのプロジェクトの 協働過程・意思決定・関係性の変容を記録・可視化・アーカイブ化することで、 「設計プロセスの知」を未来へ継承可能な形式へと翻訳し、 建築理論および教育実践へ還元しています。
We engage in hands-on design-build practices with communities—activating vacant houses, implementing small-scale interventions, and creating temporary infrastructures—to examine how spatial order emerges through participation and collective making. We also document and archive collaborative decision-making processes, transforming practical knowledge into transferable forms that contribute to architectural theory and education.

Activities
・大学院ゼミ（M1/M2）：修士研究を軸に、国内外でのプロジェクト・調査・論文執筆を行います。
• 卒業研究（4年生）：個別テーマによる設計・論文・制作型の研究を毎週ゼミ形式で実施。
• プレゼミ（3年生）：卒業研究に向けた準備として、フィールドワーク・制作をグループで実施。
• 建築×実践プロジェクト「あわいdeカタチ」：1〜3年生が参加。建築概念を拡張する実践型の演習。
• 研究プロジェクト／プロトタイピング：全国各地での空き家活用、住民参加型デザインなどに取り組みます。
• 見学／旅行／合宿：建築見学や学会出張も含め、刺激と学びのあるフィールドへ。
• コンペ部：外部設計競技へ自主参加。成果は学内展示やメディア発信も。
